In my previous post, I dangled some “click bait” about how I was over-committed, then offered only a cliffhanger. My bad.
Seriously, I found myself in a time bind over the last few months…
My next novel is a 1950’s L.A. noir, “Private Vices“. I was working hard on the final revision while looking for noir genre beta readers and seeking a cover designer.
But ideas for a sequel constantly intruded. I just HAD to jot those thoughts down… and ended up writing a long novella sequel, probably called “Public Lies“. Sounds like creative progress – but it stopped me doing that final revision of “Private Vices“. Sigh…
Seriously, I know people who really love this stage of the writing process. I’m not one of them. Love writing, hate revision.
And in the delirium of these over-heated summer days, dream-like creation is so much easier than hard-focused analysis and rewrites.
Strangely, that sequel is not the one I’d planned. “Perfect Truths” was already in progress. So I’m already talking trilogy.
Throw in some family issues and… I lost a month.
On my “To Do” list is securing a new set of covers for my published sci-fi trilogy and writing the sequel to that trilogy. Last month, I released “Final Flight” (a standalone short story set in that universe) to keep things rolling. Another item is a collection of my published short stories from various anthologies I’d like to release just before Christmas – and that’s yet another cover to source!
Phew (as a hyperbolist might say)! A busy year.
NOTE: As I mentioned above, I’m looking for beta readers familiar with classic noir, who’ll give me critical feedback before purchasers get their eyes on the writing. If you’re interested, please contact me using the Feedback Form.
Meanwhile – happy reading!
